USS Ingraham departs, submarine to call next week

Military Veterans Affairs Office Director Ruth Coleman has yet to confirm the name of the submarine.

“The schedule is next week, and most definitely, the submarine’s crewmembers and officers will be here for rest and recreation,” she said.

Coleman said the officers and crewmembers of the USS Ingraham were quite busy over the weekend with various activities.

“The VFW Post 3457 had a no-host reception on Friday for the USS Ingraham crewmembers,” Coleman said.

The ship’s crewmembers conducted a community relations project at Northern Marianas College.

“They did lots of curbside cleanup including cutting grass, trimming trees and bushes and painting rooms from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday,” Coleman said.

The crewmembers were then treated to barbeque.

Coleman said students and staff of  NMC got a chance to tour the USS Ingraham.

On Sunday, the servicemembers participated in the Saipan Chamber of Commerce’s  “Adopt a Sailor” program

“There were eight local families who invited sailors from the USS Ingraham to their homes for a home-cooked meal, a tour of the island and to sample the island’s hospitality,” Coleman said.
