Special Assistant for Military Affairs Glenna SP Reyes, in an email, said Valiant Shield 2020 or VS20 commenced on Monday, Sept. 14, and will continue through the end of the month on Guam and around the Mariana Islands Range Complex.
Although the land-based training exercises on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota had been cancelled due to Covid-19, “we expect increased sightings of numerous military aircraft and surface ships in the vicinity of the Commonwealth,” Reyes said.
Developed by the United States Indo-Pacific Command and service components, VS20 is a biennial exercise that “plays a key role in the security of a free and open Indo-Pacific.”
Participants include the U.S. Air Force, the Army, the Marine Corps onboard 100 military aircraft and the Navy — USS Ronald Reagan, USS New Orleans, USS Germantown and multiple surface ships.
