Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro said DPS received the report of an auto-pedestrian crash at around 4:43 p.m. on Sept. 10.
Ogumoro said preliminary investigation showed that the white Ford sedan operated by 38-year-old Ricardo L. Kaipat was heading north on the inner lane along the Middle Road Garapan and was nearing the Navy Hill/Commonwealth Health Center traffic light intersection when the boy crossed the highway from the northbound shoulder.
Ogumoro said Kaipat’s vehicle hit the child, who sustained minor abrasion on his left lower leg.
Medics immediately responded and brought the victim to CHC for treatment and further observation. The child was released later that day.
According to traffic investigators, the victim did not use a marked crosswalk to cross the highway.
Ogumoro said no one was cited and alcohol and speed were not factors in the incident.
The weather was clear and the road surface dry when the incident occurred, she added.
