Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro yesterday said detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division received tips from callers who spotted the vehicle of Alex Matubis in Marpi at around 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 15.
“Detectives scoured the area near Kalabera Cave but they were not able to locate the vehicle until Saturday morning,” Ogumoro said.
She added that the detectives did not find any trace of Matubis or anything suspicious in the area where they found his vehicle — a muddy blue Toyota pick-up truck with white doors, bearing the license plate number ABS-683.
The vehicle is now in police custody.
“This case is still under investigation,” Ogumoro said.
DPS is seeking the assistance of the community for any information regarding the whereabouts of Matubis.
“Should you have any information, please contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 664-9042/9047,” Ogumoro said.
Matubis was reported missing on July 28, a month after he arrived from a vacation in the Philippines.
Matubis, a native of Camarines Sur province, has been working for Castro & Associate Faxphone for the past 22 years.
His younger brother, Arnold Matubis, who works at Sam Electronics, said his brother had been behaving strangely and seemed to be depressed since returning from the Philippines.
His brother was last seen on July 28 at a grocery in Koblerville helping a lady load soft drinks into her vehicle.
He was also spotted at a remittance office on the same day.
Arnold Matubis described his brother as a church-going individual with no vices. His personal belongings, including his travel documents, are still in his barracks.
