Villagomez now in Arizona prison

Villagomez’s sister, Joaquina V. Santos, is still “in transit.”

Her husband, former Commerce Secretary James A. Santos, is already serving his six-year sentence at the U.S. Penitentiary-Victorville, a high security facility for male inmates in California.

Villagomez is projected to be released on Dec. 17, 2015.

The Santoses are projected to be released on April 21, 2015.

The Federal Correctional Institution in Phoenix is a medium security facility for male offenders. An adjacent satellite prison camp houses minimum security female offenders.

The institution is located approximately 25 miles north of downtown Phoenix.

According to its Web site, “The Bureau of Prisons encourages visiting by family, friends, and community groups to maintain the morale of the inmate and to develop closer relationships between the inmate and family members or others in the community…. The warden may restrict inmate visiting when necessary to ensure the security and good order of the institution.”

U.S. District Court for the Northern Marianas Chief Judge Alex Munson sentenced Villagomez and the Santos couple on Aug. 5, in connection with corruption charges involving federal funds provided to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.

The court said the three must pay restitution amounting to $346,125 and each must perform 200 hours of community work service upon their release.
