According to Mariano R. Iglecias, manager of CUC water division, San Antonio and Koblerville have been experiencing water outage or water shortage since they started repairing some leaks in old pipes on June 25.
Iglecias said the leak detection contractor, HD Utilities Services, is replacing valves and repairing old pipelines that are no longer working or are leaking.
The contractor will be replacing water valves in Koblerville, he added.
CUC customers will experience water outage or will go through a scheduled water service until the project is completed on Dec. 25, Iglecias said.
“The importance of this [project] is to regulate and control the flow of water for leak detection purposes,” the water manager said, adding that his division has been closely coordinating with CUC’s power division.
The power division’s load shedding affects the water and wastewater operations of households and establishments because they rely on electricity in order to run.
“We’re working our schedule according to the power outage to minimize the impact on the community,” Iglecias said.
San Antonio and Koblerville are under Kiya 2.
Iglecias said once the leak detection and repair project is over, “we stand to gain [enough] water pressure” and good water quality.
The $650,000 leak detection and repair project is fully funded by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
