WHO opens country liaison office in Palikir

This new WHO office is the first one ever established by the organization to cover the North Pacific region.

It will provide services for the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau and the Marshall Islands.  It is also the first new country liaison office created by the WHO in 30 years.

The office will work with the Department of Health and Social Affairs on such health issues as diabetes, heart disease, infectious diseases, injury prevention, health system strengthening, and tobacco control, as well as assist the FSM, Palau and the Marshalls with detecting and responding to outbreaks of infectious diseases such as multi-drug-resistant TB and dengue.  The office will also coordinate and provide training for health professionals in the North Pacific region.
