Woman arrested for transporting hazardous material

U.S. District Court for the NMI designated Judge Robert C. Naraja imposed a $1,000 bail on Yu Qiong Zheng.

The indictment charged Zheng with one count of reckless violation of the Federal Aviation Act, and one count of willful violation of the Hazardous Material Law.

According to the indictment, Zheng transported on air commerce Buprofezin, a pesticide assigned the hazardous material designation on Oct. 9, 2008 which was “improperly labeled, packaged, and conditioned for shipping.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Beverly McCallum is prosecuting the case.

The federal court has appointed Steven P. Pixley to represent Zheng.
