Joint CNMI Customs and Department of Public Safety- Drug Enforcement Task Force seized 500 grams of ice from Zhang Ling, also known as Coco, according to DPS spokesman PO2 Eric David.
Ling’s boyfriend, Qun Yu also known as Papasang or Jay, is still at large, David said.
Ling and Yu were living on Middle Road in Garapan, David said.
Yu “is considered armed and dangerous. The department is advising the general public to not approach the suspect but to call 911 immediately and report his whereabouts,” David said.
On Wednesday, David said authorities started to look for the couple after Judge Kenneth Govendo issued a search and arrest warrant against them.
At about 3:50 p.m., on the same day, David said DETF personnel spotted the couple in a white Toyota Land Cruiser along Middle Road in Gualo Rai.
“DETF attempted to stop the suspects’ vehicle to execute the arrest but the suspects’ vehicle fled the scene by ramming into the DETF vehicle,” David said.
The couple’s vehicle was pursued into the Chalan Kiya residential area where it crashed at a house, David said.
Ling was apprehended at the scene but Yu escaped, David said.
Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona yesterday retained the $30,000 cash bail she earlier imposed on Ling.
Ling was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the hearing.
Ling, assisted by an interpreter, refused the representation of counsel but Manglona advised the defendant to get an attorney.
Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke was appointed as Ling’s counsel while Assistant Attorney General Benjamin Petersburg will be the prosecutor.
Ling was being held on the charge of illegal possession of controlled substance, and trafficking of controlled substance.
Customs Lt. Dennis Reyes said in his affidavit that a cooperating defendant identified Yu and Ling as “ice” sources.
The cooperating defendant told police that the couple was selling “ice” at Piano Poker Room in Garapan, and at Ling’s residence located south of Piano Poker Room.
Yu had been arrested for drug charges in the past.
Another cooperating defendant told police that Yu and Ling were renting two places: one behind C.G.D. Pawnshop in Garapan, and the other behind SRC Building in Chalan Laulau.
The cooperating defendant bought “ice” from the couple prior to Ling’s arrest and Yu’s escape on Wednesday.
