POLICE arrested a man who allegedly struck a woman with a machete at a house in Koblerville on Thursday night.
The victim sustained a deep cut on the left side of face and her left ear was cut in half, according to the Department of Public Safety.
DPS spokesman Pete C. Muna said the suspect, identified only as Nupom, was held for aggravated assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace.
Muna said the victim told the police that she and her husband Khan Masud Hossain allowed their friend, Nupom, to live at their residence because he was unemployed and needed help.
The suspect, however, would often bring his girlfriend and get drunk.
The victim said she got fed up and chased Nopum’s girlfriend on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
Nopum then punched and kicked the tin walls of the house. Hossain tried to calm down the suspect, but he failed.
Hossain asked the victim to call the police. When Hossain walked outside the house, Nopum chased him with a machete.
Hossain fled toward a fire station and sought help.
When the victim came out from the house, Nopum confronted her and swung the machete, hitting her on the face.
A responding police officer drew his firearm and instructed the suspect to drop the machete.
Nopum stepped back and dropped his weapon.
Emergency medical technicians have treated the victim.
