With the theme “Empowering Women Across the CNMI,” the Mother’s Day celebration held at the newly renovated Garapan Community Center was attended by the members of different youth organizations and officials of government agencies.
CNMI first lady Josie Fitial, Rota Sen. Jovita M. Taimanao and Saipan Mayor Donald Flores’ wife, Cecilia, joined them.
Led by its president, Susana Deleon Guerrero, the members of the CNMI Women’s Association received a Senate resolution recognizing the group.
Vice Speaker Felicidad T. Ogumoro, Covenant-Saipan, said the vision of the women’s group is to assist and strengthen the families in the community.
She also noted the new community center now open to organizations.
“Working with limited resources, this center was the result of a true collaboration between my office, the offices of the lt. governor and governor, the 17th Legislature, the Carolinian Affairs Office, the Department of Land and Natural Resources, the Department of Public Works and community partners,” she said.
She also recognized Northern Marianas College, the Public School System’s Head Start program, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, IT&E, Marianas Waterworks Corp. and the Rollers Basketball Club in Garapan.
She said the other events that they will hold at the center include parenting classes, an after-school tutor program, adult education and health programs.
