Wounded green sea turtle rescued

The young green sea turtle, according to Dr. Edgar Tudor of Paradise Island Animal Clinic, suffered a broken shell and appeared to have been dehydrated when brought to his clinic.

He had to fix the turtle’s shell or carapace with an adhesive and give the animal an anti-biotic.

As of yesterday, Tudor said the green sea turtle was showing signs of recovery.

Once it completely recovers, the turtle will be returned to its natural habitat by the Division of Fish and Wildlife.

Norman Villagomez called DFW after finding the green sea turtle in the shallow waters at Old Man by the Sea.

DFW conservation officers and sea turtle program staff proceeded to the scene immediately and found the juvenile green turtle which was described as “lethargic with injuries to its hind carapace.”

The turtle was brought to Tudor’s clinic.

Staffers of the green sea turtle program would like to thank the Villagomez family for calling them. They also expressed appreciation for the Paradise Island Animal Clinic.

DFW said it is a critical to alert its staff about  stranded sea turtles.

The DFW enforcement daytime phone number is 664-6030, the 24-hour hotline is 898-3570; and the sea turtle program’s phone number is 664-6026.
