The committee has scheduled to meet with the government for three days to discuss issues regarding legislation to amend certain provisions of the Yap State Code, including a request for the FSM Telecommunication Corp. to repair and put back to use the communication equipment it has installed in the Outer Islands several years ago.
The panel focused its discussions on the following measures.
• Bill 7-112. to modify the qualification of state court justices, and for other purposes.
The bill will clarify that a person nominated to the position of chief justice or associate justice of the state court must be a citizen of the Federated States of Micronesia instead of the former Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands.
The bill will also allow the appointment of the two justices from the same municipality in Yap.
• Bill 7-56 will legally remove and ban all reflective tinting on the windows, windshields, and back shields of motor vehicles operating in Yap.
• Bill 7-116 will increase the imprisonment term from three to 30 years and decrease the fine from $500,000 to $100,000 for illegal possession, manufacturing, distribution and dispensing of drugs.
Also discussed was the measure to specify the sales of tobacco products and set the maximum amount of fine for a person not in compliance with the law.
