Zombies are hot!

The students came from Marianas High School, Saipan Southern High School, Grace Christian Academy, Marianas Baptist Academy, Saipan International School and Hopwood Junior High School.

On Tuesday, Sept. 14, room D 101 at MHS was packed with enthusiastic students awaiting their turns to sing and read for the student directors, Dowen Jocson, Chiantee Rosete, and Craig Hart, all from MHS. Craig said, “We were surprised by the turnout for the auditions.”

The auditioning students returned Thursday, September 16 for dance auditions. “What makes this play different from the others TWPI has done,” said Chiantee, a veteran Thespian, “is the requirement of dance auditions. The students had to learn swing on the spot!” The dance audition included a 30 minute lesson and practice session on the lindy-swing given by Mr. Harold Easton, MHS teacher and Thespian chapter director. He had no difficulties executing the moves! The students worked up a sweat and had fun, too.

While the students from Tuesday’s auditions were learning the rehearsal dance-steps on Thursday, more students came to D 101 for initial audition tryouts — taking turns singing and reading. After the Thursday audition group cleared the room from their hard work, the dancers took turns in groups of three pairs showing off their new dance moves.

The Thursday auditioners returned on Saturday for dance tryouts. And then there were band and musician auditions on Saturday, also.

Dowen, Chiantee, and Craig, the student directors, have been busy watching every single student audition and tryout, taking notes, giving audition grades, and writing comments. They held some call backs on Sunday and Monday and then processed all the information they accumulated to come up with a casting list.

And here it is!

There were also students, from MHS, SSHS and SIS who signed up for the tech crew to help back-stage. The

Thespian production is entirely student-staged, with adults on hand as advisors only.

The Thespians student organization, also known as TWPI for Thespians of the Western Pacific Islands, plans to stage the show the weekend of Nov. 12-14, at Charley’s Cabaret, Pacific Islands Club.  “This play will be amazing if we can keep the cast motivated,” said Dowen Jocson, an experienced student director who was part of the directing team for the 2008 Thespian production of THE SECRET GARDEN. “I hope we can all have fun and enjoy the play,” she added.

The show promises to be fun! ZOMBIE PROM takes place in the nuclear 1950’s, showcases an original score of 1950’s style rock and roll tunes, and brings to life that 1950’s crazed fad for zombies!

The energy is atomic!
