Lt. governor eager to return to NMI

LIEUTENANT Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, who is now out of the hospital in Hawaii, is “longing to see the people of the CNMI” once again and, can’t wait to re-join the Arnold-Dave 2022 gubernatorial campaign, his campaign manager Oscar M. Babauta said.

Palacios is an independent candidate for governor whose running mate is Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang.

In an interview, Babauta said the lt. governor called him Tuesday morning to discuss their ongoing campaign on Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

Today, Wednesday, June 29, Mayor Apatang and all the candidates of the independent AD 2022 slate are inviting people to join a roadside waving activity on Beach Road at the Atkins Kroll intersection from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Palacios has been discharged from Queens Healthcare Center in Honolulu for more than two weeks now, and is hoping to be back on island for Mayor Apatang’s birthday celebration on July 8.

However, Palacios has to undergo two more checkups before he can travel to Saipan, according to his brother, Alex Palacios.

In a statement last week, the lt. governor said he felt much better and looks forward to flying back home and getting back to work.

“I feel great, and everything is fine but I still have tests this week and next. We need to make sure these things don’t happen again,” he said, adding that he and second lady Wella Palacios are grateful to community members for their continued prayers and support.

The lt. governor was testifying in court on May 31, 2022 “when a pre-existing back condition was exacerbated requiring immediate medical attention.”
