Magnitude 4.7 quake hits Saipan

MANY residents on Saipan felt the jolt of an earthquake that lasted for a few seconds at around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

A hotel worker said the appliances in their rooms were shaking and almost fell.

An earlier earthquake was also felt on the same day at around 12 noon.

For its part, CNMI Homeland Security & Emergency Management issued the following statements on Tuesday:

“At 12:44 p.m. on Feb. 7 2023, a report of a 5.0 magnitude earthquake occurred 60 km NNE of Yigo village, Guam.”  

“Around 3:59 p.m. on Feb. 7, 2023, a report of a 4.7 magnitude earthquake occurred 15.831°N 145.940°E of Saipan Region, Northern Mariana Islands.” 

There were no tsunami warnings or advisories issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, HSEM stated.
