Magnitude 4.8 earthquake recorded, no threat of tsunami

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Residents may have felt quite a bit of rumbling earlier this evening, but there isn’t anything to worry about, according to Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense.

GHS/OCD stated in a release that the U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 that struck 33 kilometers east-southeast of Inalåhan, with a depth of 45.8 kilometers, at 6:04 p.m.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center advises that there is no tsunami threat to the Marianas from the earthquake, and there were no major damages or injuries reported from the earthquake, according to GHS/OCD.

“The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community that when an earthquake strikes, conduct the earthquake procedure, ‘Drop, Cover and Hold On’ until the shaking stops,” the release from GHS/OCD stated.
