HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Department of Corrections officers found makeshift weapons in the cell of an inmate who has a history of violent convictions, court documents state.
Rotuck Muritok, 27, is faced with a charge of promoting prison contraband as a second-degree felony after DOC officers searched his Mangilao prison cell on Thursday.
“Earlier that day, Corrections officers were conducting a cell search of inmate Rotuck Muritok. The report indicates that only the defendant occupies that cell. During that time, (a Corrections officer) found a grocery bag containing three makeshift shanks,” a magistrate’s complaint states.
The shanks reportedly were made of wire wrapped in fabric, a razor and a toothbrush.
Officers confiscated the prohibited weapons.
In charging Muritok, the Office of the Attorney General requested continued jail time and said there is a strong likelihood of conviction.
“The total number of years that this criminal defendant faces is 5 years,” the OAG said.
Muritok was committed to DOC on $3,000 cash bail.
