Man, 64, faces life in prison for sexual assault of 9-year-old girl

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A 64-year-old man faces life in prison after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a then-9-year-old girl over a decade ago.

On Friday in the Superior Court of Guam, a jury returned a guilty verdict for William Robert Reyes, a 64-year-old man who was on trial for charges of first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct, a press release from the Office of the Attorney General stated.

According to court documents, Reyes had moved off-island and hadn’t returned until November 2023. On Dec. 13, 2022, a 19-year-old woman reported to the Guam Police Department that Reyes sexually assaulted her when she was 9 years old.

Court documents state the sexual assault occurred between 2012 and 2013. The woman said she was asleep in her room when she woke up to Reyes touching her stomach. She then felt Reyes touch her underneath her underwear, and he sexually assaulted her, charging documents state.

About two weeks after the first woman made her report, another accuser, a 17-year-old girl, alleged Reyes sexually assaulted her seven years earlier.

For the charges, Reyes faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, which is the term that will be requested by prosecutors.

“Locking these types of criminals up is the only way we can be sure to protect the 9-year-old victim here – all of our kids – and create deterrence to others who would sexually victimize our children, forever damaging them,” the OAG stated in a release.

“Because of this guilty verdict, the streets of Guam have one less predator among us,” the release added.
