DEAN Anthony Frederick Borja, 37, struck his ex-girlfriend’s car with his own vehicle on Dec. 27, 2021 because she refused to pull over and talk to him, court documents stated.
Borja was charged with disturbing the peace and domestic violence: assault with a dangerous weapon.
Borja appeared in the custody of the Department of Corrections before Superior Court Associate Judge Theresa K. Kim-Tenorio for a bail hearing on Monday.
The judge imposed a $10,000 cash bail on Borja who was remanded to the custody of Corrections after the hearing.
He was ordered to return to court on Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. for a preliminary hearing and on Feb. 14 at 9 a.m. for an arraignment.
The Public Defender’s Office was appointed by the court to represent Borja while Assistant Attorney General Carmen Borja appeared for the government.
According to the complaint against the defendant, Department of Public Safety officers responded to a hit-and-run report at the Guangdong Hardware traffic light intersection on As Perdido Road at around 5:16 p.m. on Dec. 27, 2021.
At the scene, officers saw a black 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage along the shoulder of the road with a large dent on the left side.
When police opened the driver’s side of the vehicle, they noticed that the airbag had been deployed and that the driver was a woman who was crying. Police noted that the woman sustained minor injuries to her chest as a result of the crash.
She said her ex-boyfriend, Borja, hit her vehicle after chasing her car from Isa Drive in Papago in an effort to flag her down to get her to pull over and talk to him.
She said as she was driving down Isa Drive, Borja pulled to the left side of her car and kept yelling at her to pull over, but she continued driving.
She said Borja then called her on her phone and continued yelling at her while telling her to pull over, but she hung up. He continued to call her but she said she wouldn’t answer any of his calls.
Then, as she was making a right turn at the traffic light by Guangdong Hardware, she said Borja pulled to the left side of her car and when he was parallel to her, he veered right, struck her vehicle, and then fled the scene.
While police were interviewing the woman, they saw a speeding car coming from Koblerville and heading east.
Some of officers then went after the car which was being driven by Borja. They eventually initiated a violator stop on the defendant in As Gonno.
Police said Borja admitted that he hit his ex-girlfriend’s car. When asked why, Borja said it was because she didn’t want to pull over and talk to him.
