Man accused of robbing woman he was ordered to stay away from

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A man was accused of robbing a woman of six dollars in cash.

On Monday, officers with the Guam Police Department responded to a physical disturbance at an abandoned building behind Denny’s in Tamuning where they met with a woman who said she was assaulted by Curtis Jay Taitague, 31.

According to the magistrate’s complaint, the woman said that around 8 a.m., she was lying down in an abandoned building when Taitague, a man known to the woman, approached her.

“The victim told him to leave her alone, but the defendant shoved her, causing her to ‘fly off’ a few inches to the ground and that she hit her back against the wall of the room,” the complaint stated, adding the woman told Taitague she was going to call the police.

However, when the woman tried, Taitague allegedly tried to grab her phone to stop her from calling the police. The woman then hid her phone in her shorts.

Taitague subsequently grabbed the woman’s shirt, shook her and caused her shirt to rip and also allegedly struck the woman’s right ear, according to the complaint.

“The defendant then put his hands in her shorts pocket and took her money, $6 in cash. He then left the scene. The defendant was located and arrested later that day,” the complaint stated.

Taitague appeared to be on pretrial release for a 2022 misdemeanor case, where he was ordered to stay away from the same woman in the new case.

Taitague was charged with robbery, interfering with the reporting of family violence and family violence as third-degree felonies, and family violence and violation of a court order as misdemeanors.
