HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — An arrest was made in connection with a four-car collision that occurred last month on Dead Man’s Curve in Asan.
Gavin Malsol McManus is suspected of driving while impaired, then getting into a four-car crash on Feb. 22 on Dead Man’s Curve on Marine Corps Drive in Asan. The crash left one person with nonfatal injuries.
Officers with the Guam Police Department Highway Patrol Division discovered in their investigation that the driver of a black Dodge pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Route 1 near Dead Man’s Curve behind a blue sedan also traveling east, police said in a press release announcing the arrest.
“An operator of a black Dodge pickup truck was traveling eastbound behind the sedan, weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed. The operator of the pickup truck attempted to overtake the sedan on the outer lane and subsequently collided with the vehicle,” police said in the release, adding that the collision led to another collision in the opposite lane.
“The collision caused the operator of the pickup truck to lose control, encroaching into the opposite lane of travel. The pickup truck collided with a white (Chevrolet) Silverado pickup truck and simultaneously collided with a black Toyota pickup truck,” police said in the release.
McManus was arrested Thursday on suspicion of driving while impaired, reckless driving while impaired, reckless disregard for safety of persons or property while driving impaired, reckless driving, speeding in a posted zone, no driver’s license in possession and expired registration.
McManus was booked and confined at the Department of Corrections and the case has been forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General.
“The Guam Highway Patrol Division urges all motorists to prioritize safety while on the roadways and to adhere to traffic laws and regulations. Reckless and impaired driving poses significant risks to the safety of individuals and the community,” GPD stated in the release.
