Man denies theft charge

MCPETERSON Tipingeni, a repeat offender, pled not guilty to the charge of theft at an arraignment on May 22, 2023, before Superior Court Presiding Judge Roberto C. Naraja. 

Tipingeni was represented by Assistant Public Defender Molly Denert while Assistant Attorney General Heather Barcinas appeared for the government. 

According to the information filed against Tipingeni, on April 3, 2023, the defendant “unlawfully took, used, or consumed the property of San Jose Mart, with intent to permanently deprive the owner of its rights to the property, to wit: food items valued at $92.64, said property having a value of less than two hundred and fifty dollars, in violation of 6 CMC 1601(a), and made punishable by 6 CMC 1601 (b)(3) and 4101(c) [which carries a maximum sentence of one year imprisonment, $1,000 fine or both].” 

Judge Naraja scheduled a status conference for July 5 at 10 a.m. before Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho. 

Tipengeni recently was also charged with burglary and theft in a separate case. 

Tipingeni, 30, was accused of taking two unopened boxes of butane gas, one black bag containing various tools, and an orange SkilSaw valued at $300 from an apartment in Garapan.
