Man electrocuted while operating a boom truck

The man was identified as Ignacio Bemert, a resident of Airai and an employee of Surangel.

Bemert suffered serious degree burns in the body and is now under observation at the hospital.

He was operating a boom truck for a construction project in Ikelau past 2 pm on Tuesday when the incident happened.

Witnesses on the site said that Bemert was hired to lift up roof frames or “trashes” to the building which is under construction and while he was operating the truck to do the job, the crane hit a live wire of a post.

The victim was transported immediately to the hospital.

There is no active report yet of the incident, Sgt. Michael Rafael said in a media briefing yesterday.

However Sgt. Rafael said in other police reports, Bemert’s brother Magellan Bemert was arrested for petit larceny yesterday morning.

Magellan Bemert was accused of stealing betel nuts in Airai.

Sgt. Rafael said that a guest worker was also arrested in Airai for assault and battery for beating up her employer’s daughter.

The incident was reported to the police on Wednesday at 7:40 am.

The domestic helper allegedly punched the minor victim injuring her in the right hand.

A man identified as Wesley Adelbai was arrested on Wednesday afternoon for disturbing the peace.

He was allegedly drunk and was bothering his brother at their residence in Airai.

Meanwhile a restaurant in Meketii was burglarized on Tuesday morning.

An unknown person went inside the Venus restaurant and stole DVD player worth $180.
