Mchenlly Keriik Maui appeared for a change of plea hearing on August 14, and pleaded guilty to one count of assault and battery as charged in count one of the information.
The court accepted the terms of the plea agreement and sentenced the defendant to six months of imprisonment, but all suspended except for five days to be served on August 15, at 6 p.m. to August 17 at 6 p.m.; August 22 at 6 p.m. to August 24 at 6 p.m.He will report to the Division of Corrections on August 29 at 6 p.m. to continue serving his jail term until August 30 at 6 p.m.The defendant was placed on supervised probation and was ordered to pay a fine of $100 and restitution fee and the amount will be determined by the Probation Office.The defendant was also ordered to attend and complete anger management classes at Bedochel Center.Maui was charged with assault and battery for assaulting Alston Santos on May 25, 2008.The affidavit submitted in court stated that the victim was drunk on May 25 when pushed by the defendant.The victim lost conscious and when he woke up, he was at the same location, lying on the ground with a dislocated jaw.The victim was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery for his dislocated jaw.
