AFTER pleading guilty to assault and disturbing the peace, Trent James Mendiola, 36, was sentenced by Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo to six months in prison.
In his order dated June 8, 2023, Judge Govendo sentenced Mendiola, a repeat offender, to one-year imprisonment, all suspended except six months, to be served day-for-day, without parole, work release, home detention or other form of early release.
Mendiola was also given credit for 98 days of time already served.
He will be released from the custody of the Department of Corrections on Aug. 30, 2023, at 8:00 a.m.
Mendiola was also ordered to pay a fine of $150 and court costs of $25.
He will be placed on supervised probation for two years beginning on Aug. 30, 2023, and will pay a $240 probation fee.
He will likewise perform 40 hours of community work service and write an apology letter to the victim within 30 days of the order.
According to police, Mendiola barged into his former girlfriend’s apartment and assaulted her.
In his order, Judge Govendo also granted the government’s motion to dismiss all remaining charges in Criminal Cases Nos. 23-0032 and 23-0066. The government likewise withdrew the petition to revoke probation in Criminal Case Nos. 21-0095, 21-0030 and Traffic Case No. 21-00965.
Mendiola was represented by Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig while Assistant Attorney General Carmen Borja appeared for the government.
