HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A man pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine after drugs were found in his “crotch area.”
Joshua Sharp appeared in the District Court of Guam on Wednesday to change his plea to guilty for the charge of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Sharp was indicted in July last year in connection to an incident on Feb. 6, 2023. Sharp elected to plead guilty without a written plea agreement.
The indictment did not contain explicit details surrounding Sharp’s charge.
However, Sharp’s attorney Brianna Kottke from the Federal Public Defender, in her notice of intent to plead guilty filed in the federal court Feb. 1, indicated Sharp would plead guilty to facts alleged by federal prosecutors.
The facts disclosed in Kottke’s document state Sharp “knowingly possessed 14.7 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride, and he intended to distribute it to another person” on Feb. 6, 2023, when he was being processed by Judiciary of Guam marshals after he failed to appear for a hearing.
According to Post files, about a year ago, Sharp was facing charges related to smuggling methamphetamine into the Department of Corrections but was acquitted of the charges following a trial in June last year.
Following Sharp’s no-show for his hearing in the Superior Court of Guam, Sharp was discovered to have been in a motorcycle accident and requested medical attention for pain in his leg.
“Prior to transporting him to Guam Memorial Hospital, marshals conducted a full-body search and found an orange and black sock in Joshua’s crotch area. The sock contained 10 small Ziploc baggies containing a crystalline substance, which after lab testing, was determined to be 14.7 net grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride,” Kottke wrote.
The U.S. attorney’s office did not oppose Sharp pleading guilty, Kottke added. Magistrate Judge Michael Bordallo held the change of plea hearing Wednesday and accepted Sharp’s plea.
Sharp remains on release and is scheduled to appear in the federal court for a status hearing May 7.
