Manta Ray cadets assist in celebrating St. Jude fiesta

SAIPAN Southern High School’s Manta Ray Battalion assisted St. Jude Parish in celebrating its annual fiesta. The event took place during the weekend on Oct. 23 from 2:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

For both days, SSHS’s Sabre Team and Road Guard Detail assisted in their celebration. Before Mass started, the Road Guard Detail wore bright-colored road guard vests and ponchos to prevent themselves from getting soaked in the rain. The cadets also provided a safe pedestrian crosswalk for the attendees to prevent any physical injuries or any unfortunate circumstances from happening.

During Mass on Saturday, the Sabre Team presented and ordered their sabres as the altar servers, bishops, and priests walked towards the altar. As soon as everyone reached the altar, the Sabre Team marched out and ordered sabres. A motorcade was held later in the evening. As soon as the trucks with statues were parked outside of St. Jude, the Sabre Team gathered and presented their sabres as soon as the bishop blessed the trucks.

On Sunday, before Mass, the Road Guard Detail attended to the vehicles and pedestrians. Additionally, the Sabre Team presented and ordered their sabres once more. After mass, the Sabre Team escorted the people towards the exit in an orderly manner. Near the exit, the Road Guard Detail gathered and passed out food to the attendees.

Rain or shine, Saipan Southern High School’s Mighty Manta Ray Battalion’s cadets performed extremely well and were happy to help St. Jude Parish Church in their celebration of their annual fiesta.
