Manta Ray, Dolphin, Ayuyu JROTC cadets assist in cemetery cleanup

ON Saturday Oct. 22, 2022, Saipan Southern High School Manta Ray Battalion, along with battalions from KHS, MHS and Sea Cadets, were up bright and early from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. to take the initiative to assist the community by thoroughly cleaning up the Chalan Kanoa cemetery.

Throughout the cleanup, schools split into groups of three to cover different areas in the cemetery.

“Rain or Shine,” said C/2LT Villauz, Shanna as cadets continued picking up trash while rain poured during the middle of the cleanup, showing the motivation and dedication these cadets have.

Towards the end of the cleanup cadets managed to fill up over 70 bags of numerous weathered wreaths, damaged candles, old flowers, trash, and other debris covering several graves.

The Manta Ray Battalion cadets were glad they had been able to be a part of this community service experience, as they were able to live up to the JROTC motto “Motivating young people to become better citizens.”

The Manta Ray Battalion cadets accomplished another day of teamwork to serve the community.

A big thanks to Mrs. Doris Sanchez for having us take part in this year’s cemetery cleanup!
