Mariur leads delegation for an official visit to Taiwan

The Vice President’s Office announce on Tuesday that during the seven-day visit at the invitation of the Taiwan government, the delegation is also scheduled to attend a banquet hosted by Minister of Foreign Affairs Timothy Chin-tien Yang and at the same time hold bilateral talks on different areas of cooperation.

Mariur who is also Palau’s Minister of Finance will meet his Taiwan counterpart Lee Sush-der to discuss collaborative projects on fisheries, agriculture and animal husbandry.

The delegation is also scheduled to visit the Fisheries Research Institute and the Agricultural Research and Extension Station under the Council of Agriculture, as well as marine biotechnology and energy companies.

These industries are also being developed by Palau.

Sens. Raynold Oilouch and Joel Toribiong are part of the delegation and so is Del. Gibson Kanai and Vice President’s Chief of Staff Warren Umetaro.

Mariur’s wife also joined the official visit.

Taiwan and Palau become allies in 1999 and have since worked together in various areas including agriculture, fisheries, public health, education, green technology and human resources.

Palau is among the nations which have a formal diplomatic relationship with Taiwan, in exchange Palau has been a strong supporter of Taiwan’s participation in international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Health Organization.
