COMMUNITY volunteer Max Aguon is asking the public to help keep public restrooms clean to make a good impression on tourists.
Aguon, a Parks and Recreation employee, is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, opening and closing a total of 21 public restrooms on island.
He is asking for the community’s cooperation.
“I was once approached by local individuals who were upset [with] me for closing the restrooms in the evening. I told them that it was my job, and I was assigned to do that,” he said.
“We are closing the restrooms in the evening because we cannot monitor them at night, but I open them early in the morning at around 6:30 a.m.,” he added.
Aguon is overseeing two restrooms at the Grotto, five restrooms at Laly 4 in Chalan Kanoa, and 14 restrooms on Managaha.
In his free time, Aguon cleans up beach areas, parks and cemeteries. He has received many commendations and awards for his volunteer work and for promoting environmental awareness.
