TO mark the start of Older Americans Month, senior citizens gathered on Beach Road in San Jose for a road-side waving activity on Monday, May 1.
Joining them was Walter Manglona, CNMI Office on Aging director. “We want to honor our older community members and remind them that the CNMI Office on Aging is here to serve and fully supports them,” he said.
Manglona said they will hold other fun activities for the senior citizens throughout May.
Cynthia Attao, a senior citizen and a staff member of the Aging Office, said she is happy and excited for the month-long activities.
“We have reached this age and I am just happy and grateful for everything that we have. This month is about celebrating us,” she said.
“Now that I no longer work, I found companionship with the other senior citizens at the Aging Office — I found a lot of friends,” said Thomas Bundoc.
He said all his children are off-island and have their own lives, but going to the Office on Aging allows him to be productive — and happy.
“I feel loved and accepted there. This month let us give respect to people like me,” he said.
