Shell Marianas is expected to follow suit.

The regular gas price went up to $5.11 a gallon from $4.96 a gallon while the premium gas price is now $5.56 a gallon from $5.41 a gallon.

The price of diesel went down to $6.03 a gallon from $6.08 a gallon.

Island resident Dr. Ken Shankweiler said in June, he bought a brand new three-cylinder Mitsubishi G4 Mirage which only consumes $30 worth of gas a month.

“So, I am not as concerned about it,” he said, referring to the price hike. As a retiree, he said he usually goes to a store or goes out to eat and then heads to the post office. It’s no longer like before when, every day, he had to drive around.

But Shankweiler said he is still concerned because when fuel prices go up, “everything goes up.”

He noted that the price of eggs a week and half ago was $10.80 per big tray. The price was already $13 on Monday, he added.

But he said he just came to Guam recently and saw the prices there.  “I won’t complain too much about the prices here because on Guam, they’re much higher,” he added.

On Tuesday, Reuters reported that oil prices “slipped on Monday but were holding near their highest levels this month as easing Covid restrictions in China raised hopes of a demand recovery in the world’s top crude importer.”

Reuters added, “China’s crude imports rose 4% year-on-year in December, and an expected resurgence in travel for the Lunar New Year holiday at the end of the week raised the outlook for demand for transportation fuels.”
