AFTER two rollbacks over the last several weeks, the prices of gasoline are up by 20 cents, and diesel by 30 cents.

Mobil Oil Mariana Islands, Inc. on Wednesday morning increased its regular gas price to $5.96 a gallon from $5.76 a gallon, and premium gas price to $6.41 a gallon from $6.21 a gallon.

The price of diesel went up to $6.78 a gallon from $6.48 a gallon.

Shell is expected to follow suit.

On Tinian, Mobil raised its regular gas price to $7.69 a gallon from $7.49 a gallon, and diesel to $8.49 a gallon from $8.19 a gallon.

On Rota, Mobil’s regular gas price was still $7.24 a gallon and diesel was still $10.02 a gallon.

Mobil Rota received from its supplier a 20-cent increase advisory effective Wednesday morning, but they did not raise fuel prices right away because they just received their supply on Tuesday.

The Rota petroleum service station said they may wait until Friday to raise their prices because that was the day they expect to receive a new supply of fuel affected by the recent price increase.

It’s the same situation whenever a price rollback happens, Mobil Oil on Rota said. They cannot implement the change until their current supply runs out.

Rafiqul Islam, a security guard, said he was not happy to hear about the fuel price hike. He drives every day from his home in Chinatown to his work in Susupe, and spends $40 worth of gas a week.

That’s a lot of money for him because the prices of other basic commodities are also rising, he said.

“Everything now is expensive,” Islam said.

According to Reuters, oil prices “rebounded on Wednesday as a drop in U.S. oil inventories and concerns over tighter supplies from Russia and Libya drove a recovery from the previous session’s sharp losses.”

Brent crude futures rose 66 cents, or 0.6%, to $107.91 a barrel by 0948 GMT, Reuters reported.
