More heavy equipment for Saipan mayor’s office thanks to ARPA

THE Saipan mayor’s office was able to procure additional heavy equipment for road improvements and other projects, thanks to the federal American Rescue Plan Act, Mayor David M. Apatang said.

In an interview on Tuesday, he said his office also provided ARPA funds to medical and dental clinics that served Saipan residents at the height of  the Covid-19 pandemic.

Federal funds likewise helped the mayor’s office implement its house numbering project.

“We’re almost finished,” Apatang said, adding that the home numbering project “has been in the book for the longest time.”

Finally, he said, it’s getting done. “I took it upon myself to start looking for funding so we can complete it with people who are fully trained for it.”

He added, “I want to tell the people of Saipan that what we do here in this office is for our people.  We try every way possible to improve the community. That is my main job as mayor.”

For the current fiscal year, Saipan was allocated $1.4 million in ARPA funds.
