MOU signed between Taiwan and Palau groups for business ventures

On October 2, 2010, Jackson M. Henry, Chief Investment Advisor under the President’s Special Economic Development Office and Sherman Kuo, Chief Representative of the Taiwan Foundation for Asia Pacific Development, signed an (MOU) at the Fuji Restaurant.

. The group also signed a separate MOU with Palau Clam Farmers Association, headed by Bernice Ngirkeklau and Palau Fishing Association, headed by Sechelong Anatanio Kikuo to develop these businesses in Palau.

Henry in a statement said that the purpose of the MOU is “to foster greater quality investments from Taiwan to Palau in the areas of aqua-Culture, mari-culture, tourism and food processing.”

The two entities agreed to meet regularly and exchange materials and information that would further enhance economic development in Palau.

The Taiwan delegation, compromising of 24 business people, arrived in Palau on September 28 via China Airlines. The group came to Palau by invitation of then Ambassador to Taiwan, Jackson M. Henry, during the Investment Expo held in Taipei in

Some delegation members are from Ylan County, which is famous for their canneries, food processing, aqua-cultures and farming.

The Taiwan delegation met members of the Senate, the House, Ambassador Maggie Tien and Minister Harry Fritz during a social gathering at the Taj Restaurant. The group toured the Jelly Fish Lake and were hosted to a BBQ lunch at Long Beach by former Minister Temmy Shmull, Glenn Palacius, Ombudsman Lucio Ngiraiwet and friends.

“Palau is fortunate to have met this group who are motivated in assisting Palau develop its economy. Our association is the fruits of the Investment Expo held in Taiwan”, Henry said.

The group departed on October 3 and plans to return for more “due diligence and inspection of sites that they plan to invest in.”
