MOUNT Carmel School on Friday hosted the Catholic Schools Week proclamation ceremony at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral, with Gov. Ralph DLG Torres signing the proclamation to mark the beginning of this year’s celebration amid the global Covid-19 pandemic.
The theme this year is “Faith, Excellence, Service,” which highlights what Catholic schools are all about, said MCS president Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero.
“As a Catholic school, we have to remember that we are part of a broader community,” said Deleon Guerrero, noting that MCS has taken part in this celebration for roughly two decades now.
Catholic Schools Week is a nationwide celebration led by the National Catholic Educational Association, and involves all Catholic schools in all 50 states and five territories.
“It’s just a great way to join [in] solidarity with other Catholic schools…. We’ve been through so many challenges…and yet Catholic schools are still here,” said Deleon Guerrero as he also thanked the governor for signing the proclamation at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral.
“That means a lot because it means that we can have more students [and] more faculty present for such an important occasion,” he said.
In the past, Deleon Guerrero said Catholic Schools Week proclamations in the CNMI were signed either at the multi-purpose center in Susupe or at the governor’s office on Capital Hill.
In light of the pandemic, MCS Catholic Schools Week activities will be held virtually from from Jan. 31 to Feb. 6. Go to Mount Carmel School’s Facebook page for more information.
