The original request was unfortunately turned down by Pohnpei, who cited that the fuel funding for the Voyager had been exhausted for this year.
However, Yap recently renegotiated with Pohnpei and offered to pay for the fuel if they would agree to send the Voyager as scheduled.
The result of the negotiations was that Yap would pay approximately $240,000 for the estimated 50,000 gallons of fuel the Voyager would require to complete the entire schedule as set forth by the FSM Department of Transportation, Communications and Infrastructure and agreed upon by Yap.
The culmination of the efforts of the government officials has lead to the finalization of the schedule for the ship’s number 16 voyage.
A complete listing of departure and arrival dates may be found on the Yap state government website at www.yapstategov.org/downloads/voyage16.pdf
