NORTHERN Marianas College hosted six community agencies at a resource fair for students on Aug. 23 at  NMC’s As Terlaje campus.

Dozens of students checked out the booths set up by the Women, Infant and Children’s program; the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs-Child Care and Development Fund; the Community Guidance Center; the Commonwealth Medicaid Agency; the Workforce Investment Agency; and the Office of U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan.

WIA was at the event to spread awareness of available training opportunities, according to Natalya Deryabina, a WIA resource coordinator.

NMC students and the community at large can utilize WIA programs to train at NMC, the Northern Marianas Technical Institute, Island Training Solutions or the Guam Marianas Training Center, Deryabina said.

“The main goal for our clients is to have permanent employment after our services,” she added.

Gerald Crisostomo, an intern with Congressman Kilili’s office, was at the fair to bring more NMC students into the internship program. The office of Congressman Kilili likewise gave out free nursing books as part of the Library of Congress Surplus Book Program.

According to Maggie Koch, community advocate for child care subsidy at the DCCA-Childcare and Development Fund, full-time NMC students who have children of their own may be eligible for subsidized child daycare costs.

Also at the event were representatives from the CGC. Kimberly Tudela, youth and young adult coordinator, said she spread awareness about individual therapy, wrap-around care coordination, brief intervention services, and mental health first aid training available at the CGC.

Tudela also spread awareness about the 988 emergency mental health phone line, which is available for island residents.
