AT the start of its spring semester on Tuesday, Northern Marianas College welcomed 1,171 students, which represents an increase of 2.78% compared to the same period last year when 1,139 students enrolled at NMC.

“We are grateful to our faculty, staff, and administrators for all their hard work in recruiting and accommodating students and their needs, all of which contributed to this enrollment increase,” NMC President Galvin Deleon Guerrero, EdD, said. “The increase also reflects the students and the community’s confidence in the college as we sail ahead with many strategic priorities, including new facilities, new programs, and new services.”

He said the enrollment numbers may continue to change, however, as students can still add classes or otherwise modify their schedules during the first week of the semester.

Adbiel Carandang, an 18-year-old freshman at NMC, said he enrolled at the college to accomplish his goal of earning a degree in accounting.

“I’m looking forward to learning about my career path this semester, and gaining the knowledge I need to excel in the accounting field,” Carandang said.

Zean Buenaventura, a 19-year-old nursing student, shared the same sentiments.

“I’m looking forward to meeting new people this semester and learning more about the nursing field,” Buenaventura said.

Liberal arts major Pauline Santos, 18, is also at NMC to fulfill her goals.

“I enrolled at NMC to make my parents proud by earning my degree,” Santos said. “I’m looking forward to participating in more student events this semester and getting a chance to get to know my professors more.”
