SAIPAN-BORN Patricia Pangelinan Sablan is a 15-year-old AVID and AP honor student who has already received admission offers from universities in Oregon, California, Arizona and Texas.
Raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, she is now residing in Texas with her family. She is the daughter of Joseph Babauta and Nadine Sablan, and will turn 16 on Nov. 18.
She said she plans to attend Texas Tech University after graduating from Permian High School. She wants to become a pediatrician.
“I was kind of surprised because I’m not a senior yet. So why are they sending me these letters so early? Plus, I didn’t even apply to most of them, but I will always have faith in God — wherever He brings me I will trust in Him.”
Patricia’s grandmother, Kina Sablan, said: “I am very proud of her. But I am mostly proud to say that she is from the CNMI. I hope all our children in the CNMI will be motivated to follow their dreams. We are from a very far place, but don’t give up.”
