NMI Democrats to hold Pride Wave & Mixer on June 3

THE Democratic Party of the NMI is inviting the public to its Pride Wave & Mixer at “The People’s Office” at the corner of Middle and Quartermaster roads on June 3, 2022, at 4 p.m.

The event, which will be followed by a Pride Mixer, will be held in observance of Pride Month. According to party president Jonathan Cabrera, the NMI Democrats are “Out and Proud.”

“We are the party of diversity and inclusion, and the Democratic Party of the NMI cordially invites the general public to join us,” he said.

“Music, light refreshments, and free smiles will be available all night long. Queer representation in the political process is important, and that representation includes leadership and decision-making in our party,” Cabrera added.

The party’s vice chair, Luella Marciano, said, “For the first time in the history of the NMI Democratic Party, we have two party officers who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community. It’s an exciting time to be a Democrat!”

Party secretary Melia Johnson said she is proud of how much the NMI Democratic Party has evolved in the area of LGBTQIA+ representation. “Our party reflects the diversity of our human community, and we are proud of that fact,” she said.

Treasurer Shawna Indalecio encourages the community “to come out and meet their party members and elected officials who will be in attendance for the party’s first ever Pride event.”
