THE CNMI Covid-19 vaccination dashboard has recently been updated to include statistics on those who have received a third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation Chief Executive Officer Esther L. Muna said on Friday.
As of Tuesday, 1,759 additional doses of the vaccines had been administered.
A third shot, or an additional dose after an initial primary vaccine series, which is not to be confused with a booster shot, is administered when the immune response following a primary vaccine series is likely to be insufficient.
An additional mRNA Covid-19 vaccine dose is recommended for moderately to severely immunocompromised people whose immune response was not strong enough after receiving an initial two-dose primary mRNA vaccine series.
A booster shot is advised for individuals whose immune response may have waned.
Third shots are available for those who are as young as 12 years of age, while booster shots are only available for those who are 18 years of age or older and meet other criteria.
As of Tuesday, 83% of the eligible population, or 35,184 individuals, had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
The vaccine doses that had been administered total 72,163, including the 35,220 for individuals who have received the first dose.
Of the fully vaccinated in the CNMI, 29,676 received the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine; 4,687, Moderna; and 821, Johnson & Johnson/Janssen.
According to the dashboard, a total of 42,388 individuals in the CNMI are eligible to be fully vaccinated.
As of Sunday, the CNMI reported 289 positive Covid-19 cases, three deaths, and five hospitalizations since March 28, 2020.
