NORTHERN Marianas Technical Institute officials will visit Tinian and Rota beginning next week to explore new possibilities and partnerships.
Led by interim chief executive officer Jodina Attao, marketing and outreach coordinator Benjamin Babauta, curriculum coordinator Jerry Pangelinan, automotive instructor Dante Yumul, network administrator Stephen Sablan, and facilities manager Lucio Saures will comprise the team that will represent NMTI on this outreach venture.
The six-person team will hold a town hall at Tinian Junior Senior High School at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 24, and at the Sinapalo Youth Center on Rota at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31.
On both islands, the team will meet with the mayors as well as the resident directors of the Departments of Commerce and Labor.
The NMTI team will also visit the Tinian and Rota campuses of Northern Marianas College, and observe the culinary arts classes of Tinian Jr./Sr. High School and Dr. Rita H. Inos Jr./Sr. High School.
“We are going there to establish our presence and meet with government officials to see what is needed on the island in terms of trade skills and providing certifications in certain trades. We [will also be] establishing partnerships with NMC-Tinian campus and NMC-Rota campus,” said NMTI marketing and outreach coordinator Benjamin Babauta.
First established as a private, nonprofit entity in 2008, NMTI aims to offer students a broad and balanced trades curriculum that provides rewarding and stimulating activities to prepare them for the workforce.
NMTI, which is now a nonprofit public corporation, offers the following programs: hotel and hospitality, automotive technology, construction trades, power generation, and culinary arts.
