Remengesau’s supporters filed a nominating petition on his behalf to run for the Senate. The president told reporters that he is still retaining the choice to withdraw his petition before the ballots are printed.“My public life speaks for itself, I have nothing to hide,” the president. He was reacting to allegations that he is running to cover alleged illegal acts during his tenure in public office.“I feel very strongly that I have an integrity I can be proud of,” the president said.He said during election or campaign period it is most likely that allegations will be fired.“I have seen and heard all allegations and personal attacks,” Remengesau said.He said that he is open to any investigation and that some members of the Congress who are making corruption allegations against his administration have that choice to call for his impeachment.
”When you run for Congress, what is there to hide? What are the tracks we can cover up? You do not run to the Senate to hide something,” the president said. The president said his ministers also have that option to run and seeking a seat in the Senate is not part of a grand scheme to cover up anomalies in the government. He said since his cabinet ministers and him are not under any investigation, it’s their right to seek an elective post.
