THE Marianas Alliance of Non-Governmental Organizations or MANGO is offering a free workshop to support people who want to enter the world of non-profit organizational work or get better at the work they are already doing.

According to Training Manager Shawna Babauta, on June 5, Monday, from 9 a.m. till noon, MANGO’s Middle Road, Gualo Rai office will be the site of a workshop covering the “Nonprofit Toolkit,” as well as the roles fulfilled by a board of directors.

Babauta said the specific topics to be discussed include: incorporating as a nonprofit; developing organizational documents; securing federal recognition as a 501(c)(3) organization; standard board operations; fiduciary responsibilities of the board; and more.

She said part of MANGO’s mission is to support nonprofits so they can focus on their programmatic activities.

Babauta said training events like the “Nonprofit Toolkit” workshop are in line with that goal.

MANGO also offers administrative services and are available to help understand federal and local grant cycles; grant application writing; periodic reporting; and how to successfully close out grants.

“The nonprofit sector can be a vital part of the fabric of the community not only economically but [also] in the services they provide,” Babauta said. “The more capable nonprofits are, the more the community will benefit from all the good work that is out there for everyone.”

Edward Manibusan, the chair of the Marianas Surf Skate League, has found out firsthand that sustainability and funding are a big challenge to nonprofits.

He joined the MANGO Lemmai-Mei Incubator Project to receive support.

The Lemmai-Mei Incubator Project is a six-module series of workshops and seminars that help nonprofits run efficiently.

One of their modules features the same kind of content that will be taught in the “Nonprofit Toolkit” workshop.

Manibusan said through MANGO he was provided with guidance and help with his organization’s incorporating documents.

He said interested parties should avail themselves of MANGO’s services.

“I feel that I learned more about how to conduct business as a nonprofit and the importance of creating a strategic plan for our organization,” Manibusan said. “MANGO staff have been very supportive of our organization and provide us tools to help us be successful.”
