(OES) — The Oleai Elementary School Turtles performed well in the last virtual monthly qualifying competition of the Primary Grades Forensic Conference for kindergarten to 5th grade. They are now preparing for the regional competition in April to determine the Top 5 in each event.
Their parents are happy for them and want to share their thoughts about having their children join the PGFC competitions.
Fourth grade parents Mr. Louie and Mrs. Marie Leightley said, “PGFC is a good avenue for the students to develop and improve their creativity, reading skills, and confidence. Besides the recognition, my daughter Leila enjoys the whole process which is the most important thing in joining the PGFC competition.”
According to Mr. and Mrs. Nick & Roselle Carreon, “Our daughter Isabel Maximina I. Carreon first joined PGFC when she was in 1st Grade. The second time she joined was just this School Year: 21-22 under the care of her teacher Mrs. Esther Manzano. This school year she has participated in numerous competitions. We have seen Isabel strengthen her speaking and performance skills. In addition, she had the support of her CCLHS teacher Ms. Claire Cabrera in providing her Chamorro CCLHS piece, thus allowing our daughter to begin, harness, and strengthen her Chamorro speaking skills. We are proud and grateful.” Mr. and Mrs. Nick & Roselle Carreon said they are thankful tothe PGFC Team.
Second grade and fifth grade parents Analiza Padernal and Omar Padolina shared their thoughts about their kids joining PGFC. “They learned to communicate, talked and performed in front of other people without any hesitation. In addition, they learned to think and answer questions on the spot under time pressure during the competition. Plus, the learning experience of participating in a friendly competition, win or lose, they learned to accept defeat in a good manner.”
Supportive fourth grade parents Arlyn Manaloto and Felicisimo Salundaguit said, “When our son Alexander joined PGFC, we were fully supportive of it. Joining PGFC can build our son’s confidence and make him more used to performing in front of others.”
Parents Marivic and Julius Aldrin Javaluyas said: “Allowing our son Marvic to join PGFC helps him to be more confident and believe in himself and what he is capable of doing academically, especially if he is able to get a place in the category, he participated in. As parents, our role is to support our kids as they try to discover and learn new things and help them succeed on their own.”
Fifth grade parent Eve Pauline Silanga said she “always wants Zoe to join in any school event that can help boost her self-confidence. She’s a very shy girl and as much as possible, I’d like her to help in overcoming this. I’m very grateful for OES that she was given the chance to participate in PGFC.”
Silanga thanked the coach for all the hard work and effort in training the kids.
Second grade parents Marlon and Angie Punzalan said, “We personally encouraged our son, Ram Israel, to join the PGFC (we did the same to our 2 older kids when they were younger). We believe that kids should be exposed to activities like these to improve their skills/talents, to open their minds to involvement and participation, building their confidence, facing their fear standing in front of people and so many other good things that our children will benefit from.”
“Impromptu speaking is my personal favorite,” mother Angie Punzalan added.
The administration, faculty, staff, and PGFC coach of Oleai Elementary would like to thank all the parents for all their support in helping their children as they continue to excel, not only in academics, but also in extracurricular activities like PGFC. Excellent job to all the PGFC participants in the last virtual monthly competition.
