Okada, Sablan to lead education board

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — The members of the Guam Education Board have voted on who will lead them in overseeing public education on the island.

“The board members showed their full support and confidence in Dr. Mary Okada and Angel R. Sablan, who were elected as the chair and vice chair of the GEB, respectively. The newly elected leaders expressed their gratitude and excitement to serve the GEB in advancing the quality of education in Guam,” the Guam Department of Education announced in a press release.

Okada previously served as vice chair for the 10th GEB, with Mark Mendiola as chair.

“I am grateful for the trust and confidence that the board has placed in me,” said Okada. “We have a clear vision and direction for our education system through the framework provided in the GDOE 5-year strategic plan, I Chalan-ta Mona (Our Path Forward), adopted in 2022. I am eager to continuously collaborate with my fellow board members and GDOE leadership to deliver high-quality education for our students.”

This is Sablan’s first term on the board and as vice chair.

“I am honored to serve in this role and to work toward our common vision and mission. I am committed to fulfilling the expectations and needs of our students. I appreciate the cooperation and leadership of the GDOE team and I believe that we can provide high-quality education to our island community,” he said in the release.
