The Oketol Dock Improvement project began in November of 2007. All of the major work on the project was completed last week.
State officials said the Oketol Dock improvement project included more than reconstruction of the dock. The dock has been reconstructed according to its original traditional architectural design and reinforced using modern construction engineering. It features a swimming pool, a fenced basketball court, a boat ramp, extended boat mooring areas, a modern “waiting house,” and improved bathroom facilities.The officials said Surangel and Sons Company has “done excellent work and had kept its promises when it was awarded the project.“The company had hired local resident to work on the project,” the officials said, “ and despite what many have speculated, had completed phase of the project according to schedule.”The official said that the lights are expected to be in place as early as next week. All of the bases of the 16 lights for the basketball court, the swimming pool and the length of the dock are in place.The state officials said that are formal “cutting of ribbons” ceremony will be scheduled to mark the official opening of the improved dock as well as the initial start of the continuation of the state’s road rehabilitation projects.
