OFFICE of Planning and Development Director Kodep Ogumoro-Uludong on Tuesday shared with the Rotary Club of Saipan the CNMI Comprehensive Sustainable Development Plan that his office drafted with support from the Planning and Development Advisory Council.
Ogumoro-Uludong and Peter Dresslar, senior advisor for broadband and digital equity, were the Rotarians’ guests during the club’s luncheon meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Giovanni’s Restaurant on Tuesday.
Ogumoro-Uludong said OPD’s mission is to increase the effectiveness of government and private sector actions and improve coordination among different government agencies to ensure the wise use of resources.
OPD, he added, also serves as a clearing house for all information and data related to planning development.
As for the Comprehensive Sustainable Development Plan or CSDP, Ogumoro-Uludong said it “utilizes a sustainable development goals framework consisting of 17 goals — no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, decent work and economic growth, industry innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, live on land, peace, justice and strong institutions, and partnerships.”
Ogumoro-Uludong said partnerships “is the most important goal as it brings everything together and really frames how OPD operates.”
“So we have multiple partnerships in the government, community and NGOs that we utilize to really help execute and move us forward, across these areas,” he added.
He said OPD worked with partner agencies over the past two years to complete the plan, which Gov. Ralph DLG Torres signed on Oct. 26, 2021.
The governor described the plan as “a roadmap for sustainable growth” and “a living document that allows continuous improvement in order that we may create a sustainable future for our Commonwealth.”
